VUSM Paper Bottom Sealers


On the paper bottom sealing machine, filled or unfilled composite cans are sealed and closed with a bottom made of composite paper or cardboard by means of a heat contact process.

Both round and non-round formats can be processed!

Design and Function

fully automatic, continuously operating closing machine in rotary turret design

Feeding of the can bodies


  • feeding the filled cans or unfilled can bodies to the machine on a horizontal conveyor belt (optional)
  • separating the cans by means of a driven stop star
  • acceleration of the cans by means of an infeed worm
  • transfer of the cans to the sealing stations by a transfer star wheel

Feeding of the paper bottoms

  • inserting the prefabricated paper bottoms
    • into the bottom magazine or
    • onto a long stacking conveyor (optional) for long charging cycles

  • gentle extraction of the cardboard bottom from the magazine by means of vacuum
  • overhanding the paper bottom to the sealing turret

Heat-sealing process

  • exact positioning of the paper bottoms in each sealing station in a form ring
  • calibrating the can bodies by means of the form ring
    • precise orientation to the paper bottoms
    • correction of slight deformations of the can body

  • controlled lifting of the bottom and can body into the sealing tool
  • heat-sealing of paper bottom with can body
    • by inner and outer heated sealing tools
    • utilizing robust and easy-to-use heat contact technology
    • with adjustable and monitored temperature
    • long sealing times (up to 1.65 s) thanks to turret principle

Process control (optional)

  • no sealing operation when can or bottom is missing
    • avoidance of contamination

  • overheat protection during sealing
  • automatic pneumatic ejection system for faulty cans
  • integrated camera / vision inspection

Format Change

quick change to other can formats using

  • fully automatic height adjustment without change parts
  • very good and easy access to the tooling area
  • short changeover time for preset sealing heads with quick change mechanism
